Easy mode

For the easy mode, use a pencil to draw a simple constellation like the Big Dipper on a piece of black paper. Then, carefully punch holes along the lines of the constellation. Attach the paper over the flashlight and turn it on. Watch as your constellation appears on the wall!

Hard mode

Are you ready for a bigger challenge? Draw 2-3 different constellations on separate pieces of black paper. Punch holes along the lines and attach each paper to the flashlight one at a time. Now you can switch between different constellations. How cool is that?

Challenge mode

For the ultimate cosmic adventure, create a mini ‘planetarium show’. Draw and punch holes for 3 or more constellations. As you switch between them on the flashlight, narrate a fun story that involves each constellation. You’re not just a space explorer now, but also a storyteller!

Some prompts to encourage the kid

  • Wow, your constellation is shining so bright!
  • Can you tell me a story about your constellation?
  • I can’t wait to see your next constellation!
  • You’re a real space explorer!
  • I wonder what constellation you’ll create next?

Important things to keep in mind

  • Ensure that the children handle the tools for punching holes carefully
  • If possible, use LED flashlights as they do not get hot.
